Am I exposing myself?

virtually real

Maybe a little…?  Or maybe not enough, for this daily smorgasboard of thoughts that are served up across the globe, a bit like a ‘never-ending-all-you-can-eat’ buffet with a limitless open bar (jeez, I do love a metaphor)!

In our last lecture, Michael Honey talked about his decision to be who is, wherever he is – in the virtual or the real world.  This makes sense to me and I admire this confidence, but with some uncertainty, I’ve opted for something in-betweenish while I consider whether my half-baked thoughts need to be shared.  Maybe my cooking isn’t that great, or maybe everyone has already had enough, they’re full and still trying to digest all they’ve consumed?  Maybe I’m making excuses, or perhaps that’s just who I am in the real world anyway, so what’s the big deal.  Is there a temptation to be someone you’re not?  Or is it just a welcome relief that you have the opportunity to throw your thoughts out there like you’re part of a big food fight.

As the virtual world seeps into the real world, I can see how people could become addicted to blogging.  Who doesn’t like to talk about what’s on their mind?  Who doesn’t jump in with their own version of events, when listenting to someone else’s story?  Who doesn’t want to be heard?  Maybe this is a kind of therapy that will cure cancer.  It seems healthy and constructive – to contribute, and to absorb the thoughts of those in the world around us.

So yeah, maybe I’m exposing myself a little, but I don’t think it’s that much of a big deal!

Was that my stomach growling?
